Rodney Guttmann Receives the Abraham Flexner Master Educator Award

Rodney Guttmann, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Departments of Physiology and Gerontology is one of 15 faculty members to receive the prestigious Abraham Flexner Master Educator Award in the area of Educational Innovation and Curriculum Development. This annual award from the Center for Excellent in Medical Education recognizes faculty who have made outstanding contributions in the educational program in College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. Recognizing the need for student speaking development, Dr. Guttmann designed a course aimed at enhancing scientific presentation skills of graduate and medical students utilizing a "practice with feedback" approach. The series has produced excellent results with dramatic improvement as noted by faculty in addition to having extraordinary positive feedback from student participants. For these reasons, this series has been recognized by the Center for its excellence in medical education.

Dr. Guttmann, who recently became the Director of Graduate Studies for the Graduate Center for Gerontology, will be recognized for his achievement at the College of Medicine Academic Convocation on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Hospital Auditorium.
