Curriculum Vitae

Joel M. Lee completed his Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health degrees in Health Services Administration and Organization at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. He has served in a variety of academic positions in the formation of the UK College of Public Health, most recently as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Doctoral Studies, and Chair of the Department of Health Services Management. Lee has served on a numerous boards and committees including the Board of Directors of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), and the Kentucky Health Care Strategy Forum.  He is past chair of the Association of Schools of Public Health, Health Services Administration Council, and the AUPHA Public Health Management, Strategic Health Planning, Managed Care, and Doctoral Education Faculty Forums, and serves on the Regent’s Advisory Board of the American College of Health Care Executives.  In 2005, he was appointed to the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and in 2006 as a Judge for the Kentucky Center for Performance Excellence.  He served as a member of the ASPH, Health Policy and Management Competency Workgroup, and coordinates Southeast Center for Public Health Training activities in Kentucky.  Dr. Lee serves as an accreditation site visitor for the Council Education in Public Health, and the Council on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. He has been involved in international educational activities in Russia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Dubai.  He is a recipient of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association "Great Teacher" Award, and in 2005 he was selected by College of Public Health students for the Golden Apple Award. In 2006, Dr. Lee was appointed to the ItemWriting Committee for the National Board of Public Health Examiners credentialing examination, and appointed to the Operating Committee of the Center for Performance Excellence and, as well as two editorial boards.  He is also serving as chair of the 2007 Program Committee for the AUPHA Leadership Conference, and as Co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Health Administration Education addressing Doctoral Education.  In 2006 he was appointed by the Provost as the Academic Ombud for the University of Kentucky.
