Department of Health Behavior

Letter from the Chair

The Department of Health Behavior is comprised of highly productive faculty members who embrace the traditions of academia through their teaching, scholarship, and funded research projects. Indeed, the department is home to nationally known scholars who obtain research funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This excellence in research fosters multiple learning opportunities for the MPH and DrPH students who have chosen to enter our program. Please take some time on this web page to learn more about our faculty, their research projects, their publications, and the courses they teach. You will find one theme that persists throughout this information – faculty members are clearly dedicated to the prevention of disease and their work is making a difference!

Our students are also highly dedicated to the prevention of disease, both domestically and globally. Students who have currently chosen to concentrate their MPH or DrPH programs in health behavior come from more than a dozen different states in the U.S. and an increasing number come from other countries. We are extremely pleased that the learning environment is rich with this diversity. Our learning environment is also predicated on the observation that public health is an applied discipline. Although we offer a string cadre of coursework, the practicum and capstone experiences are held in the highest regard. Our students have been successfully placed in practicum experiences with agencies such as CDC and we have nurtured connections, throughout the U.S., that help our students obtain data for their capstone experience. For DrPH students, we are able to offer opportunities for undergraduate teaching experiences. Please take some time on this web page to learn about our alumni.

Sincerely,

Richard A. Crosby, PhD
