Dr. Amit Chattopadhyay is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health and of Dental Public Health in Department of Oral Health Sciences in the College of Dentistry at University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Dr. Chattopadhyay has a dental doctoral degree with honors (Calcutta University, India); specialty masters degrees in: Oral Pathology (Gujarat University, India), Public health – Epidemiology (Oklahoma University); and residency training in Dental Public Health (SUNY, Albany & New York State Department of Health). He is board certified by the American Board of Dental Public Health. Dr. Chattopadhyay also earned a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a National Research Service Award funding, where he was also an adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Ecology in the School of Dentistry. He has also earned a diploma in journalism and a doctorate certificate in Family Medicine from India, and graduate certificates in international development and in public health outcomes from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He teaches Epidemiology, Oral Epidemiology, and Public Health Biology (under development) courses and contributes to the graduate oral biology courses. He is the author of a chapter "Fluoride Technology - A Global Perspective" in the Textbook of Preventive and Community Dentistry, published by Elsevier in 2007. He is also the Guest Editor of the first ever issue of Dental Clinics of North America on Dental Public Health. He has been selected to serve on the Research Ethics Committe of the American Association for Dental Research (2008-2011). Research InterestsDr. Chattopadhyay primary research interest is in the area of epidemiology of oral diseases, especially in oral cancer-precancer, oral mucosal diseases and mucosal immunity. He is particularly interested in the etio-pathology and interaction of oral comorbidities. His other major research interests include oral disease simulation models using a-life methods, health economics, public health programs, research ethics and clinical program education development. He has traveled abroad for presenting at several scientific meetings, serving on international expert panels and has been invited to speak at research institutions in Finland, Thailand, Singapore and India. Professor Chattopadhyay has published numerous scientific articles in reputed peer reviewed journals such as Infection and Immunity, Oral Oncology, AIDS Patient care and STD’s, Ambulatory Pediatrics, Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine, OSOMOPORE, Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, Advances in Dental Research, International Dental Journal, BMC Oral Health, Angle Orthodontics, International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Special Care Dentistry and Quintessence International. |
