John Wiggs Public Health Endowed Scholarship Fund

John Wiggs
(1943-2007)

Associate Dean for Admissions & Student Affairs John S. Wiggs passed away on July 31, 2007 following a strong and courageous fight with cancer. During his 35-year career at UK, John also served most of the medical center colleges in some way, working with students.

John was the heart and soul of the University of Kentucky College of Public Health and has had an indelible impact on the college, on his faculty and staff colleagues, and all of the students. He helped launch the careers of many students whose legacies reflect their dedication to their chosen profession. John’s leadership in student recruitment, particularly with regard to underrepresented students, set a standard that all UK colleges would be well-served to emulate.

It is very fitting that we honor John Wiggs through the creation of a student scholarship in his name to be awarded to a public health student, particularly underrepresented students. This helps recognize his leadership and commitment to health professions students, particularly underrepresented students and is an opportunity to honor John’s lifetime of work and commitment to students here at UK. Before John left us, he and his family blessed this endeavor and we are honored to carry out their wishes through the creation of the John Wiggs Public Health Student Endowed Scholarship Fund.
