Awards and Alumni Spotlight
Jasie Jackson, MPH, serves as Regional Epidemiologist for the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland District where she has also developed and continues to maintain the district-wide reportable disease database. Among Jasie’s many responsibilities with the Health Department is that of Director of Quality Improvement/Assurance. As Director, Jasie Jackson is responsible for participating in local health department audits and providing clinical staff with quality improvement recommendations and reports. Jasie is also a member of the Kentucky Department for Public Health Committee for the design and implementation of an electronic reportable disease application that assists in case management, state and federal reporting, and notification associated with disease surveillance.
When asked how UKCPH prepared her for a career in public health, Jasie commented, “In my current position, I have used every aspect of the broad education that I received. I apply concepts from environmental health, health promotion, and management on a daily basis.” Part of her managerial responsibilities is the supervision of three Public Health Preparedness Planners and one Bioterrorism Training Coordinator. Jasie will also be responsible for the development of an Epidemiology and Health Planning Branch for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.
In the future, Jasie plans to work in the Epidemiology and Health Planning Branch at the Kentucky Department for Public Health and subsequently pursue a career as a program analyst for the Centers for Disease Control. Practical experience has benefited Jasie Jackson’s career and she advises MPH students to take advantage of practical experience opportunities available through the School of Public Health.
